Unlike Breather and Bewick’s Mambo, the script for Rinse and Spin was written without even the minimal constraint/inspiration of a music track. It was selected for funding through the UK Film Council’s Digital Stingers scheme, and shot just three months after Bewick’s Mambo. While the two previous films were shot more or less as written, Rinse and Spin underwent many transformations, during both the shoot and the edit. Ben Pearson’s band Them Amazing Babies came in at the last minute, and it was after working with them that I thought of asking Ben to be the narrator. The structure of the film was completely transformed in the edit, thanks to the creativity (and enormous patience) of Bruno Tracq.

Rinse and Spin brought together once again Scali Delpeyrat and James Harris, who had both appeared in Bewick’s Mambo. This was my first collaboration with the Belgian DP Virginie Surdej, and the French sound designer Olivier Touche.
